Split the Room into random teams

Random Teams turns whoever is in the Room into balanced teams in one tap. Choose how many teams you want or how many people belong in each, then generate: the teams appear for everyone at once and can be reshuffled until the split looks right. You can also paste a list of names instead when the people are not in the Room yet.

How it works

  1. Open Random Teams in a Free4Chat Room and pick how to group people.
  2. Generate the teams, or paste a list of names instead of using the Room.
  3. Reshuffle until the split looks right, then copy the teams out.

What you can do

Why use it in a Free4Chat Room

The Free4Chat-specific part is that you do not retype anyone. Everyone in the Room already has a name the Room knows, so “use Room Humans” is a zero-entry roster — no spreadsheet, no roll call, no separate sign-up page. The grouping is decided once and shared, so the Room argues about the teams rather than about whose screen shows what, and voice and chat stay open while you sort it out.

Limits & privacy

Two limits are worth knowing. The grouping is a snapshot: someone who joins after you generate is not quietly added, and you rebuild from the current Room Humans when you want them included — the App says so on screen. Nothing is stored anywhere: pasted names live in the browser tab for the session only, and the teams disappear with the temporary Room. There is no account, no saved roster and no team database.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to type everyone's name?

No. If the people are already in the Room, use Room Humans and the roster is filled in for you. Pasted names are there for planning before everyone arrives.

Are the teams saved?

No. The grouping lives in the browsers that have the App open and disappears with the temporary Room. Pasted names are never stored.

What happens when someone joins after we generate?

They are not added to the existing teams. Generate again from the current Room Humans to include them, which keeps the earlier result honest rather than quietly changing it.

Can someone change the teams on their own?

The grouping has one author at a time. Others see the same result and can copy it, and authority moves on only if that person leaves the Room.

Do I need an account?

No account or signup is required. Everyone joins with the Room link they already have.
