Survive the waves in a browser auto-shooter

Squaretato is a survivor-style action game that runs in a browser tab. You pick a character, then spend each wave moving through a crowd of enemies while your weapons aim and fire on their own — the skill is in positioning, build choices and knowing when to retreat, not in aiming. Between waves you take a free upgrade, spend what you earned in the shop, and go back in stronger.

  2. Pick a character and start the first wave.
  3. Move to survive, upgrade between waves, and see how far the run goes.

What you can do

Why use it in a Free4Chat Room

A run is thirty waves with a boss waiting at waves 10, 20 and 30, and it is built to be understood in one go: move, survive, upgrade, shop, repeat. Death ends the run and starts a fresh one, and the game keeps a prestige-style progression so a failed run still moves you forward. It is solo-first — there is no shared match, no teammate to wait for and no lobby — and no game state travels over the Room's lanes.

Limits & privacy

It opens inside a Free4Chat Room, which is what makes it a group activity anyway: voice and chat stay open around the game, so people can play their own runs while talking and compare builds. There is no account, no cloud save and no leaderboard, and the Room's sandbox means local progress may not survive between sessions. No music track ships — the donor soundtrack's redistribution terms were unresolved — and the sound effects are generated in the browser.

Frequently asked questions

Is Squaretato multiplayer?

No. You play your own solo run; the Room is there so you can talk while you play, and no game state is shared between players.

Do I have to aim?

No. Your weapons aim and fire automatically, so the decisions are about movement, positioning and which upgrades to take.

Why is there no music?

The donor soundtrack had no redistribution terms this project could rely on, so the tracks were removed before the game shipped to Rooms. The sound effects are generated in the browser.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes — a touch joystick appears when you play on a touch device, and the first-run tutorial card dismisses with a tap.

Is my progress saved?

There is no account and no cloud save. The Room sandbox can also clear local storage between sessions, so treat each run as self-contained.
